EqUITY, DIVERSITY, & Inclusion statement

Tisch New Theatre intends to implement the goals of equity and diversity outlined by New York University and the Tisch School of the Arts, and expand past those parameters to establish an ideal and truly equitable artistic space for the NYU community. The following goals were written by current TNT Board members with the intention of transforming our institution into one that advocates for the demographics of NYU’s exceptionally diverse student body in every area: content, administration, individual artists, and audience members.

  • The ambition to consistently produce work in the future that reflects TNT’s goal of showcasing stories that represent the total makeup of the NYU community, and to continue to represent the total makeup of the NYU community long after the current administration of TNT has graduated. 

  • Standardize the hiring, recruitment, and audition processes for TNT administration, staff, cast, and crew. We are a company that espouses the practice of affirmative action. 

    1. Create a hiring database that allows us to analyze the demographics of TNT’s working body

    2. Specify in applications and interview processes to ask candidates how their ideas and attitudes toward diversity and inclusion inform their work as an artist.

    3. Establish a hiring policy to create a more inclusive workplace.

      1. Mentoring / sponsorship opportunities for groups that have been historically underrepresented and those who have not worked in theatre before.

  • Create a workforce to ensure diversity is present at all levels of Tisch New Theatre (from the administrative level to volunteer crew):

  • Create a board that better represents the demographics of NYU

    Establish and implement a plan for creating an inclusive access for audiences, artists, and staff with disabilities 

    1. Inclusive of all types of disability not limited to physical disability.

  • Establish and implement a plan to include works in languages other than English.

  • Establish and implement a plan to include works addressing religious traditions other than Christianity.
