Our mission is to serve as a creative outlet for all NYU students. TNT has established itself as an avenue for students to work in all facets of the theatre: performance, management, direction, production, and other technical and design aspects. Tisch New Theatre is committed to developing ambitious work intended to entertain, inspire, and unite the artistic efforts of the Tisch community with the entire student body.

Role Descriptions:

Assistant Producer: Aids the Producer in uniting the creative team, raising the financial investment, finding the show venue, and guiding the show every step of the way.

General Manager: Provide guidance to the Producer, executing their decisions and performing essential day-to-day tasks for smooth show operations, including securing rehearsal space and overseeing financial planning. Supervise various aspects of production management, such as devising timelines, managing employees, handling labor relations, and editing/sending contracts.

Dramaturg: Works closely with the directing team, providing research and insight to both cast and crew to enhance the understanding and portrayal of a production. Dramaturgs interpret plays and help shape the play's world. Skills: Ability to interpret and compile comprehensive research, analysis, collaboration.

Archivist: Document the process of show creation from start to finish. Typically is responsible for recording the show performance. Can be both a production-based and artistic role.

Co-Marketing Director: Promotes and represents the theater's production, public image, and branding. Responsibilities encompass managing publicity, advertising materials, social media, and radio ads, as well as branding content and distribution, and press & public relations. Experience/skills in marketing, advertising, brand management, analytics, sales, social media management, public relations, organization, collaboration, graphic design and proofreading are all helpful to this role.

Development Director and Assistant: Lead fundraising, grant writing, donor, and sponsorship activities, managing the department. They maintain donor databases, seek partnerships at individual, institutional, and corporate levels to sustain the organization. Skills include Event Planning, Marketing, Finance, Ability to budget, Strong written and verbal communication, Patience, Enthusiasm, Negotiations.

House Manager: Oversees theater front-of-house operations, acting as a liaison between the production staff and owners of the theater. They manage day-to-day venue operations, supervise staff, and ensure audience comfort and safety. Ensure a seamless theater experience for patrons. Skills include: Strong communication skills, Attention to Detail, Ability to talk to patrons and staff, Quick decision-making, Customer Service skills.

Assistant Choreographer: Designs and directs the performers’ dance and complex movement portion of the show. Skills include: Attention to Detail, Interest in Dance and Choreography, Dance and Movement Collaboration, Awareness of Space, Taking direction.

Head Lighting Designer and Assistant Lighting Designer: creates the lighting concept and equipment requirements for a production. Lighting Designers work most closely with the artistic staff to create a lighting scheme that communicates the feeling of a production and guides the audience’s attention in specific ways throughout a performance. Skills include: Understanding of equipment and colors, Operating systems (light boards), How to troubleshoot light fixtures, Ability to give direction, Collaboration, Ability to use ladders.

Electrician: maintains a theatre’s electrical systems and often serves as production electrician operating all lights during a show, including traditional and automated lighting, spotlights, special lighting effects, and house lights. Skills include Ability to understand power and electrical wiring, Operating systems (light boards), How to troubleshoot light fixtures, Organizational skills, Safety Cautions.

Assistant Sound Design: helps design the audio experience of a production by creating the sound design, including sound playback, sound effects, music, and amplification. Skills include Engineering, Experience with equipment and different software, Collaboration, Mixing.

Head Scenic and Prop Design and Assistant Scenic and Prop Designer: creates the set design for a production, including backdrops, set pieces, and props. Skills include Experience in design and construction, Drawing and painting, Attention to Detail, Collaboration, Ability to give and take direction, Patience.

Head Costume Designer and Assistant Costume Designer: transforms the actors into their characters through the use of clothing and helps situate a production in a specific time and place through the visual cues of clothing. They design, research, source, and construct the clothes for all the actors in a production. Skills include Sewing, Sketching, Drawing, Attention to detail.

Wardrobe Supervisor: During performances: dress performers, assist with fast changes, keep track of costumes and accessories, and quickly fix costume pieces when necessary. Before the show they attend to beading, pressing, repairing and anything else required to ensure that all finishing touches are in place before the curtain goes up. Skills include Sewing, Sketching, Drawing, Attention to detail.

Hair and Makeup Designer: transforms the actors into their characters through the use of make-up, along with hair and styling. Develop a look and style for each character that helps convey the story. Skills include Attention to detail, Ability to use and apply makeup, Research, Special effects makeup, Resourceful.

Photographer/Videographer : Attending several rehearsals and dress rehearsals to capture images. Working with the producer and marketing director to ensure necessary shots are provided for press and marketing purposes. Delivering images, with a quick turnaround, in a range of resolutions for both print and online purposes. Undertaking any necessary post-production work on images. Overseeing image usage when necessary. Skills: Photography | Knowledge of light | Steady hand | Attention to detail | Working in quick and short moments | Editing

Graphic Designer: Create the visual identity of a show. Works with the Directing team on the process of creating a poster (key art) for a show. Designing posters and marquees of various sizes for the front of the theatre, creating outdoor advertisements for billboards, subway posters, taxi tops, and phone kiosks, advertisements for web and print, shareable content for social media, and email blasts. Consults with the Marketing director, producer, and artistic director in creating the visual appearance of a show’s website. Skills: Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) | Video editing software (Final Cut Pro, etc.) | Knowledge of typography and color theory | Creative thinking | Able to adapt to different styles | Works well on a team | Understanding of technical specifications for digital and print media.

Dialect Coach: teaches actors specific dialects for productions. They're skilled in linguistics, phonetics, and dialect mastery. Proficient in IPA, they guide actors to authentically produce dialect sounds.
